Humidity

One of the most common health issues that plague our society is dehydration. Specially in a very dry or deserted area like Saudi Arabia, kids and us, could suffer from dry skin, dehydration, chronic joint and muscle pain, raspy throat, sore eyes, and difficulty concentrating.
Controlling the amount of moisture in the air is necessary for your family's health. Dry air in your home can make your throat feel dry, and cause or aggravate respiratory ailments. During extremely cold weather, your home loses humidity to the outdoors and may drop to as low as 5% relative humidity. Cold air inside a home heated to 73 degrees can have a relative humidity approaching 6%. By comparison, typical humidity in the Arabian Desert is about 8%. Generally, one does not want to have a home humidity any lower than 30%. Optimal comfort is considered to be achieved at 40-55% humidity.
Inadequate humidification during cold weather is one of the major causes of respiratory infections. The heating season causes many people to experience repeated attacks of winter colds. Winter is blamed for these problems, but the actual cause is dryness, which effects the membranes of the nose, throat and bronchial tubes. Relative humidity also has a significant effect on controlling the occurrence of airborne infections.
To combat dehydration, both are essential: drink a lot of water, and maintain the relative humidity in the home and office at comfortable levels.
With the use of simple Ionizer / Humidifier , the humidity inside your room will be increase in a more comportable and relax level.
You’ll love the atmospheric comfort and health benefits that humidifier provides for your kids. Negative ionization eliminates fungus, microorganisms, mold spores, dust mites and other airborne contaminants.

Nag Chat na ba Kayo ?

Internet Voice and Chatting, Helping OFW's reduce the loneliness of being away from their loved ones. I remember about nine years ago when internet was not a household buzz here in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We would run to the nearest call cabin just to call our wife, kids, girlfriend, mother and dearest friend and spend about 5 dollars a minute
just enough to say hi, hello, how are you and goodbye :-). Those were the dark days for our fellow kababayan's who really work hard and paid just enough to send money to their loved ones.

Fast-forward to year 2000, The Saudi Telecoms started laying out plans to give internet services for landline users although high speed access like leased lines and sattelite access are already available, only rich saudis and companies can avail of such services. This was the time when Electronic Mails (Email) was the best way to send messages and greetings via internet with the likes of yahoo mail, hotmail among others getting the attention of our kababayans.

Now, with the voice/chat capability of softwares like yahoo messenger, msn messenger, skype, googletalk and others, All we have to do is go to the nearest internet cafe (if we dont have one at home) and ask our love ones in the philippines to do the same (I used to ask my wife to go to the expressions internet cafe in baliuag) and enjoy talking and seeing each other using webcam with out any time limit.

Technology really advances very fast and they always give us so much benefit, Overseas Filipino Workers (TFC, Internet, GSM/SMS) but they can also give us so much memories, be it happy or lonely.
I was once lonely when it was in the internet email that i received 6 years ago, when my father died. But it was also in the internet chat when my wife told me that we will be having a new child ( Off course i am the father :), I was never been happy ....

WEBCAM

WEBCAM BASIC
by: Brian R. Lee

Instead of just communicating over the internet with text and emoticons, people are beginning to realize just how easy and fun it is to send video clips through cyberspace. Webcam setups range from simple to complex, and increasing the complexity is only a matter of adding functionality through software, custom code and/or equipment connections. A simple Webcam setup consists of a Digital Camera attached to your computer, usually through the USB port. The camera part of the Webcam setup is just a digital camera -- nothing out of the ordinary so far. The "Webcam" functions of the camera originate from the software. Webcam software takes a frame from the digital camera at a preset interval (for example, the software might grab a still image from the camera once every 30 seconds) and transfers it to another location for viewing. If you're interested in using your Webcam for streaming video, you'll want a Webcam system with a high frame rate. The frame rate indicates the number of pictures the software can grab and transfer in one second. For streaming video, you need a minimum rate of at least 15 frames per second (fps), and 30 fps is optimal. To achieve high frame rates, you must necessarily have a high-speed internet connection. Once it captures a frame, the software broadcasts the image over your Internet connection. There are several broadcast methods. Using the most common method, the software turns that image into a JPEG (compressed) file and uploads it to a web server using File Transfer Protocol (FTP). You can easily place a JPEG image onto any web page in this manner and post your webcam images on the internet. If you don't have your own Web server or web site, you can also use your web cam to send a video email. First, launch the software that comes with the camera. Depending on the model, the process of e-mailing and recording your video messages may vary. Press Start or Record to begin the video message. Click Stop and then preview the video. You can then click E-mail or Send, which automatically opens your default e-mail program. When sending a video e-mail, the longer the video message recorded, the bigger the attachment will be, so make sure the recipient's computer can handle the size. The recipient of the e-mail does not need special software to see your video message; they simply choose to open the attachment and the mini movie will play. Another increasingly popular way to use your web cam is a chat session with webcams in "real time" with instant messaging (IM) programs. During an IM chat, there will be an option to start the webcam right on the screen, or under the Options or Tools menu. In Windows Messenger, for example, the words Start Camera are on the right-hand side of the screen. It is also possible to adjust the volume, window size, and video resolution with IM options. The person on the other end also needs a webcam to visually chat. Adjust your camera's focus, point it toward your face, and most importantly, look right into the "eye" of the webcam so your friends on the other end see more than just your forehead. Keep in mind that some webcams require an additional microphone to record audio. Don't expect terrific video quality. It's often possible to adjust the video resolution by toying with the webcam's software settings, but the higher the quality, the choppier the video frame rates will be. Webcams can also be used for remote security monitoring, but beware of hackers who could intercept your video feed and then spy on YOU. Make full use of passwords and encryption.

When Buying Used Hardware

What You Need To Know When Buying Used Hardware

by: Joshua Levitt

Refurbished network hardware is the latest thing for hip IT managers who consider themselves "in the know". The used equipment is often renovated by various resellers and integrators, reset and error free. They are then sold in the secondary market at up to 90% off of list price. Products are available even in the most sophisticated and obscure models, and often come with a warranty that supersedes even that of the original manufacturer. How is the hardware refurbished? Networking products usually pass a grueling inspection, upgrade and update checklist. This includes testing under a variety of conditions to ensure that electronics, connectivity ports, memory configuration, firmware/software and electrical components perform to standards. What about the warranty of a refurbished hardware appliance? Most resellers offer a minimum warranty of three months. It varies with the policy of the supplier. Extended warranty up to two years can be availed from some retailers. What to look out for when buying refurbished? There is a growing concern in the industry surrounding fake equipment. Anyone who has taken a stroll down Manhattan's Canal Street lately has no doubt become aware of the thriving market for fake Rolexes, Luis Vuitton hand bags and the like. This phenomenon has recently infiltrated the network hardware market. These fakes, often referred to in the industry as, "Chisco" (fake Cisco products originating in China), are popping up more and more. Cisco Systems is the largest provider of Internet telephony equipment in the world, and account for some 80% of all used equipment sales worldwide. This enormous popularity has made them the obvious target for such fake product reproduction. It helps to have a few tools to protect yourself from fraud. Rule 1 when shopping for used equipment is to be wary of suppliers from China. Historically, most of these fakes have originated somewhere in China. So be careful when dealing with a Chinese supplier. Try to deal with a reputable supplier and develop a relationship. It helps to look for quality business certifications such as "ISO 9001" and others when choosing a reseller. When using online auctions, feedback is king! Make sure you deal exclusively with resellers who have significant positive feedback from multiple people. Take a quick peek at the actual responses and confirm that they in-fact come from unique sources and not all the same person. People have been known online, to buy large inexpensive quantities from one another to essentially stuff the ballot box and artificially flood the others feedback score. Who are some of the leading companies in the refurbished hardware market? I will breakdown this answer into 2 individual categories. The outlet seller and the full service provider. Full service provider: These organizations offer a full suite of services for the IT customer. In this model, relationships are formed between the salesperson and customer. The sales cycle can last anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 year. The customer will usually disclose all relevant information regarding their project or current network configuration. Educated sales people here will assist the customer to make decision about what product or products might best solve their particular business needs. These providers will often offer integration services as well, helping the customer to install the new equipment into their existing set-up. A prime example of this type of sale would be Digital warehouse. DW is a certified NY based full service supplier of refurbished network hardware. Their mission is "reducing the cost of network infrastructure", and that's exactly what they do. With a rigorous reconditioning and testing process coupled with a warranty program that rivals anyone else's in the industry, they allow you to feel safe and secure that you are getting quality second hand hardware at a great price. Outlet sales: Online outlet sales have recently emerged as a new trend in the used hardware industry. Direct selling online has become the latest luxury for IT professionals who know what they want or need. Usedcisco's. website is the ideal address for such transactions. They borrowed Michael Dell's direct approach to selling online and moved away from the traditional consultative sales approach. Basically, assuming that many of these products have become commoditized and listed products and pricing directly on their site. For the first time, an end user could go online quickly and source product at a reasonable price, place the order and be finished in record time. Never once having to deal with a salesperson along the way. What is the difference between refurbished hardware and used hardware? Refurbished hardware are renovated, reset and fully tested. The term "used hardware" is often used synonymously with refurbished hardwarein this industry. However; on occasion, particularly in online auctions, the term "used", may also mean that it has not been tested or reconditioned in any way. Under such circumstances it is preferential to inquire about the specifics before purchasing under the title "used". Are there any other price advantages associated with refurbished hardware? Absolutely! You can expect to save anywhere form 30 - 90% off list price when buying used. Traditionally people would shy away from used equipment because of the inherent risk that it presented. However, with current competition in the secondary market resellers have raised their quality standards. They now provide guarantee's that outlast the original warranty given when the unit was new. What does all this mean to you? This means that most of the risk formerly associated with buying hardware used has been eliminated. With a little bit of knowledge and a touch of common sense you can now enjoy massive discounts on IT equipment, stress free! Making "reconditioned", the new way to go for hip IT professionals everywhere.

Protecting Home Buyers

Protecting homebuyers
By Gilbert YuInquirer
Posted date: June 09, 2007

MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippines is in the middle of a property boom because of the sound fiscal management by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her economic team.
Given this scenario and part of the my advocacy to protect the homebuyer, my life passion is to house our countrymen with the best quality home they can afford.
A professional architect for more than 37 years, I abide by very simple rules that when it comes to dealing with my clients -- do what has been asked of you and be truthful about all details of the project.
This is the first of a series of tips I am sharing to empower the homebuyer.
1. Don’t believe the flyers. Promise of palaces in the sky at only P9,000 a month with no down payment sounds too good to be true. Flyers don’t tell you everything. They don’t mention the ballooning payments and, most important of all, they don’t say when the project will start and when the unit will be delivered to the homebuyer.
2. Be insistent. As a homebuyer, you must ask the right questions and insist that you should be answered adequately, completely and truthfully.
In more developed countries there are escrow or trustee banks that handle real estate transactions. The homebuyer pays to the bank and the bank releases money to the developer based on construction accomplishment.
Given the inadequacy of our laws, our first question to the developer is: how is my money spent and where does my monthly payment go?
It is a very simple and practical question that you may find their sales agents stumbling over. If the agents cannot answer, go to someone higher until you are satisfied.
3. Investigate. Find out who are behind the project, if it is a new or old corporation and how much their paid-up capital is and if they have the capacity to finish the project. You will be surprised to know that many corporations that develop billion-peso projects have only P1 million in paid-up capital sometimes even less.
Ask about the track record if they claim to be an experienced developer.
Another vital question to ask is about the land ownership. Many developers do not own the land their project is built on. Typically, this is mortgaged to the bank or the developer and the landowner may have a joint venture.
4. Study the joint-venture agreement. Know that this is your right.
You must secure an agreement from the developer and the landowner or the bank that after the homebuyer has fully paid for the property, based on the monthly payment scheme of the developer, they must release the property to the homebuyers and free it from any dispute or lien.
5. Put everything in black and white. We may not have the proper laws in the construction and real estate industry, but the only one that can protect you as a homebuyer is you and your insistence in asking the right questions. And once you get the answers, demand that the answers be written in the contract.
Remember, if the developer can answer your questions truthfully and adequately, then, you can consider yourself protected. Otherwise, just walk away and find another. There are many out there who share the same passion we have to provide shelter for everyone who can afford it.

Back to School

It's back to school time for my two kid's back in manila. My oldest son John Philip will be in grade four at Saint Paul's College in San Rafael Bulacan and my youngest son Mhar Ivan will be in Preparatory level in the same school. I remember last time i chat with my Ivo in the internet, he speaks english better than me and he keep on talking coz he said hes learning because he's getting ready to go to school :) .

Gosh! I cant imagine how much money do we need to spend for their education, being an OFW does not guarantee that we can always give them the best education as much as possible. Thank god we are almost finish with their education plans (Philam not CAP or Pacific :-) ), we only need to take care that they finish primary and secondary school with high grades so that they will not have a hard time doing it in College.

Our best consolation is that both my kids are doing good in school, they are always inside the top ten student of their repective grade levels.

Hopefully, after my oldest son graduates in his elementary, we will bring them here to be with us to enjoy each other remove the longing that me and me wife have been suffering for a very long time now....

Joke Joke Joke

*A housewife is at home when she suddenly hears a knock on the door. When she opens the door a man asks her if she has a vagina, the woman slams the door in disbelief of what a stranger has just asked her. The same thing happens three consecutive days and the woman decides to tell her husband. The husband says to the wife; "Tomorrow I am not going to work and when the man asks if you have a vagina say yes and I will be hiding behind the door." The next day the same man comes again and when the woman opens the door he asks if she has a vagina and the woman says yes. The man then said to the woman, "Good, then please tell your husband to stop screwing my wife".

*A patient who is recuperating from a major operation has received the following text message from the hospital: We are happy to inform you that the RED marks THAT WE HAD EARLIER FOUND ON YOUR PENIS WERE NOT CANCEROUS BUT WERE ONLY LIPSTICK MARKS. WE DEEPLY APOLOGIZE FOR REMOVING YOUR PENIS!!

*CHINESE PEOPLE(Talking from the Telephone)
Caller: Hello, can I speak to Annie Wan ? ( hear it "anyone")
Operator: Yes, you can speak to me.
Caller: No, I want to speak to Annie Wan!
Operator: You are talking to someone! Who is this?
Caller: I'm Sum Wan.And I need to talk to Annie Wan! It's urgent.
Operator: I know u are someone and u want to talk to anyone! But what's this urgent matter about?
Caller: Well just tell my sister Annie Wan that our brother, Noe Wan was involved in an accident. Noe Wan got injured and now Noe Wan is being sent to the hospital. Right now, Avery Wan is on his way to the hospital.
Operator: Look if no one was injured and no one was sent to the hospital from the accident that isn't an urgent matter! You may find this hilarious but I don't have time for this!
Caller: You are so rude! Who are you?
Operator: I'm Saw Lee.
Caller: Yes! You should be sorry. Now give me your name!

Filipino OFW, Beheaded in Riyadh

Sad aint it ? Was it worth the life ? No it's not. Did the government really manage to talk to the family of the Pakistani victim to accept the blood money in exchange of Reynaldo Cortez's life?
If it's true then why they did not accept the bloodmoney when in fact the pakistani victim is just a mere Limousine driver in riyadh? That amount is more than enough or in fact more than that driver can earn in his entire life driving a limo in riyadh?

I myself was almost a victim of sexual harrasment by a pakistani limo driver in riyadh during my early years in the kingdom, I was able to get rid of that maniac without hurting myself and without hurting him :) (but damn! pakistanis are not small people mind you !)

I do believe that Rey is telling the truth, and the family of that pakistani just does not want to accept the fact that he was killed because he tried to rape our kababayan ergo not accepting the bloodmoney !!!

Ultrasound, How sure if it's a boy or a girl?

Yesterday morning, my wife and i went to a small clinic here in riyadh because she wants to undergo ultrasound method to once and for all, we will know the gender of our incoming baby. I am equally excited was very nervous given that we already have two boy's in the house, i am somewhat resigned to the outcome that maybe, again it will be a another boy by telling from the guessing and teasing that my wife recieves from her friends and colleagues.

Arriving to the Al Badri Medical Center, we were met by my wifes former friends (she used to work there that's why the 50 % discount). I was left to stay in the lobby because guys's are not allowed to go inside (muslim clinic) so i just enjoy myself watching a plasma tv connected to a computer with the windows xp that keeps on rebooting (whats that? problem with Bill or it's the plasma tv?).

Unfortunately i loss count of how many times the plasma screen turned on and off, the butterfly in my stomach keeps on tickleing me by the thought of my wife undergoing ultrasound procedure.

My wife really long for a baby girl right after our first baby was born, another boy in the family will really disappoint her. She always tease me that i only know how to love and make a baby boy :).

After almost an hour of waiting and neck breaking exercise, here comes my wife telling me that the doctor said it's a baby girl!

I said at last !!! a princess in the house !!!

That really made my day ! ! !

The Funny Part ! ! !

Until now, given the result and images from the ultrasound scan and google ofcourse, My beloved wife still cannot believe that it was indeed a baby girl inside her :).

She want's to come back again next month and do the 3D Ultrasound Scan.

So we will be doing it again next month as per my wife's desire (she's paying the bill anyway :) )

But for me, Deep inside an expecting father in me, I know it's a princess coz i already feel like a king ......

I come Alive ! ! !

Mabuhay and Hurrah to all my kababayan and accidental lurker ! Welcome to my Blog ! ! !

Here, I will share all my thoughts abought everything that comes to my vision and intuitions.

Presently, Busy working my butt as an Underpaid Systems Administrator in a Military School here in Riyadh Saudi Arabia, I am also a partime computer/network technician cum driver to my wife who is working in KKESH and who also happens to be pregnant to our third child (were glad shes a she according to Ultrasound) we already have to kids (the stay in manila with the lola).
